Louis Tomlinson brought his Faith In The Future World Tour to Stir Cove in Council Bluffs, IA, Saturday evening, June 17th. What an absolute privilege it was to shoot for someone who I admired for years and still do. If you don’t know who Louis Tomlinson is you must be living under a rock. He is one of the members of One Direction, but he is definitely more than that. He is a world class artist. During my formative years in high school and college, I was a die hard 1D fan. My roommates and I had posters of them in our apartment and we always had their music playing. To be even typing this, is just so surreal. I never thought in a million years that I would get to shoot for him. This show was extremely special to me.

Andrew Cushin started the evening off with his acoustic melodies and piano player, Richard. Reigning from Newcastle, England, singer-songwriter really impressed the crowd with his charm and tunes. It takes a lot for an artist to jump on stage with just a guitar and piano and really capture the crowd and he did exactly that. He was fantastic. Check out his latest single titled 4.5%

The Snuts were up next. This Scottish Indie rock band wowed the masses with their melodic guitar riffs and catchy lyrics. They got the crowd jumping and singing along to their tunes. Formed in 2015, this band has been playing shows all around the UK and Ireland and signed to their own label Happy Artists Records. Check out their latest single titled Gloria.

Before Louis Tomlinson graced our presence, I chatted with some fans on the barricade. A group of them had been to several of his shows on this tour so they gave me the run-down of what to expect and I told them tales of my early One Direction days. I got them cheering for a crowd photo before the show started. Louis came on stage and I had the best time of my life. He played a ton of tunes, including two of my favorites Saturdays and Silver Tongues. He also sang a couple 1D tunes and you know I went absolutely feral during those. His new album Faith In The Future is out now! I highly suggest you check it out. He is such a talented artist and songwriter.

I would like to thank Stir Cove for having me out and for always being such a great venue with friendly staff. Thank you to Andrew Cushin and The Snuts for being so hospitable even though you’re far from home. These guys played their hearts out. Lastly I would like to thank Louis Tomlinson and his team for letting me capture the show. I never thought in a million years that I would get to do that. If you told me I would get to photograph someone I looked up to for years, I would’ve punched you in the face. Talk about a full circle moment. I hope I get to work with him in the future. He is a fantastic human and musician. Thank you for everything! Until next time friends.

Tuesday night at the Admiral Theatre was the place to be if you were looking for a night of heavy metal music. Trivium and Beartooth brought their co-headlining tour to Omaha, NE on May 30th 2023 with supporting acts Archetypes Collide and Malevolence.

Archetypes Collide started the night. I’d seen these guys in Lincoln, Nebraska November of 2022 at the 1867 Bar. They put on a great show, but the stage was so small. It was great to see them perform on the Admirals large stage. They had so much more room to run around and do their thing. It was a short set, but enough to get the crowd moving.

Next up was Malevolence, a hard-core heavy metal band from England. They were the surprise of the night. All but one came out in shorts and sneakers, like they were ready for a work out and pretty much were. Malevolence worked the stage and had the crowd moshing from the first song. The circle pit was soon after that.

Malevolence would be a hard act to follow, but Beartooth had no problem. First of the two co-headliners, Beartooth came out fast and heavy with “Devastation”. A shirtless Caleb Shomo (lead vocals) was nonstop, pacing the stage, only to pause for a drink of water. Shomo is a pro at hyping up the crowd. Everything from directing the circle pit to chanting back and forth with the crowd. Just before kicking off “You Never Know” Shomo told the crowd to “Get your money’s worth” “Everything you got, all the way to the back” and the crowd did just that. With a hit packed, thirteen song set list, attendees got their money’s worth.

Metalcore veterans Trivium closed out the night. Unfortunately, it looked like the crowd thinned out quite a bit after Beartooth but all the easier to get the circle pit going. Those who stayed, were treated to an energetic, interactive show. The playlist might not be well known to the masses but the Trivium fans knew it all. The set was heavy start to finish and the crowd embraced it with headbanging, crow surfing, a moment of rowing the boat and steady circle pit. Matt Heafy (lead vocals, guitar) stated Indianapolis had been their best crowd to date and challenged the crowd to bring it. Heafy never confirmed Omaha’s success or defeat, but I’d say they were a top qualifier.

Check out live shots from each set:

When you hear L7’s tour is stopping in your town, you drop what you’re doing and you run to the venue to catch the show, especially when there are only a few dates in the US left. Donita Sparks (guitars/vocals), Suzi Gardner (guitars/vocals), Jennifer Finch (bass/vocals) and Dee Plakas (drums) are back at it, hitting a few stages across the US, including the Punk Rock Bowling Event before heading for a short tour in Australia that starts off in Auckland Dec 6th. running through a 2-day stint at Thornbury mid-December.

The dubbed American Grunge Punk Queens are celebrating the 30th anniversary of Bricks Are Heavy and performing the album in full. The band’s formation in 1985 to their reunion and subsequent tours, L7 is out rocking stages and reconnecting with their long-time fans.

Whether you’ve seen the band live in the late ’80s, at the height of the grunge punk rock of the 90s, on the last few tours or anywhere in between, it’s always a great show and you leave wanting more.  I was able to catch the show a few nights ago at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe Arizona and L7 did not disappoint.

The show started with openers Fairy Bones, a Phoenix-based band that formed in 2013, released two albums and several singles between 2015-2019 and hit the scene again in 2021 with a few new members. Fronted by Chelsea Louise (vocals/rhythm guitar), the band also includes long-time bassist Chad Foos and newest members Daphne Greene (guitar) and Jared Fron (drums). I enjoyed the Fairy Bones’ set and thought they were a great fit for show opener.

L7 hit the stage after a short montage of classic hits of the 90s covering all genres. It was evident I was surrounded by many long-time fans as they sang every word, while the band played the Bricks Are Heavy songs in album order.  After Donita’s warning of “don’t you dare leave after this next song” the band went into Pretend We’re Dead as the 3rd song on the album and the 3rd song on the setlist that night. The fan-filled crowd sang every word.

Being a fan since I was actually first exposed to the Bricks Are Heavy album which was originally released April of 1992 and produced by Butch Vig and the band, I was surprised to see such a diverse age group in the crowd that night. It was cool to see groups of late teen and early 20s jamming along to the show right along with us “seasoned” fans who remember hearing a new song when it was released on the radio or your insightful friend shoved a new vinyl at you and told you to play.

It was another great night of live music blaring from the Marquee Theatre on a nice warm night in Arizona. For a band that has toured together on and off over the years, the comradery on stage shown through at this always fun rock show with the always punk-vibe, let’s just kick everyone in the ass attitude that we love and expect from L7.  This is a band that you should catch live every chance you get.  Hats off to you Donita, Suzi, Jennifer and Dee for a killer show!

Check out live shots from the show below!

“Your Tears Mean Nothing” is the 1st single and video from Julien-K’s upcoming DRK|MODE collection. In stark contrast to the guitar heavy Harmonic Disruptor and the upcoming Trauma Echoes album, DRK|MODE was created using almost no guitars. The band wanted the challenge of retaining their signature dark & heavy sound and emotional feel while using only synthesizers.

The video was created by the FRAME|WORK video team that includes Director/ Editor Oscar Gutiérrez, Steve Green on second camera, and color/editing done by The Anix.

Legendary rock band TESLA will release their highly anticipated live album on May 26, 2023. The album will include “Time To Rock” plus others all recorded at Full Throttle Saloon in Sturgis.

Pre-Order FULL THROTTLE LIVE!https://lnk.to/tesla_fullthrottlelive

TESLA is a notorious band for one thing; being a high-energy, 100% live, kick-ass rock and roll band in concert! FULL THROTTLE LIVE captures this essence from a stop at the Sturgis Bike Rally in the year 2022 at the infamous saloon that hosts many motorcycle rock and roll parties, and this inspired the band to put on even more of a heavy show. Independently recorded, mixed, and produced by bassist Brian Wheat and guitarist Frank Hannon, this new live album truly captures TESLA in pure honest form and even dives deeper into their roots by recording a live version of the 1974 Aerosmith classic “SOS Too Bad” as a bonus track. The heavier song choices range from “Miles Away!” to more recent hard releases like “Time to Rock!” and “Cold Blue Steel”. But don’t worry there are old TESLA classics captured too like “Changes” and “Lazy Days, Crazy Nights” all recorded as TESLA is best..100% FULL THROTTLE LIVE!

“MILES AWAY” is the lead-off single release from TESLA’s new live album FULL THROTTLE LIVE! The guys chose to put this song out first because it represents TESLA and the new live album’s harder heavier sound. “MILES AWAY” is a fan favorite in concert with its heavy 6/8 rolling groove and blistering guitar solo. This is also an ironic song choice because the song lyrics are written about being a “rock star” on the road away from reality and missing home. Check out TESLA’s new live album FULL THROTTLE LIVE! You won’t be let down and MILES AWAY will take you there.

Story and Photos by Audrey Wright

Poison lead singer Bret Michaels came out to Stir Cove in Council Bluffs, IA Saturday night, May 20th, not only to play his music and some Poison hits, but to also support our troops, veterans, and first responders. Guy Fieri also made an appearance to welcome his new restaurant inside Harrah’s Casino and to support Bret Michaels during his show.

Country star, Frank Ray, was the opener for the evening. Reigning from New Mexico, retired police officer turned country music star hit the charts in 2017 and opened up for Ashley McBryde. In 2018 he released his first EP titled Different Kind Of Country. Ray signed to BBR Music Group in 2021 debuting his single titled Streetlights. Frank Ray had really great energy the whole set. He got everyone dancing and singing to some cover songs and his original tunes as well. Frank Ray’s new self titled album will be out on July 7th.

After a much anticipated evening, Bret Michaels brought his fun and infectious energy out on stage. I have been wanting to shoot his shows for a few years now but it had never panned out, so I was elated that I was finally able to do so. If there’s one thing Bret knows how to do, it is get a crowd going. He loves his fans like they are family. Not only does Bret love his fans, but he is also a huge philanthropist. He loves supporting troops, veterans, and gives back to the community in any way that he can. Such a talented and down to earth guy. Bret played Poison hits including my favorite Every Rose. He also played some of his solo work and even did a couple cover songs. If there’s one thing Bret Michaels knows how to do, it is throw a party. I had a great time and I am glad that this was my first show back at Stir Cove for the season!

I would like to thank Stir Cove and their staff for having me out this evening. You guys are the best! Thank you to Bret Michaels and his team for putting on a great show and allowing me to capture it! Until next time, friends.

Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Daryl Hall has an exciting summer lined up on a solo tour with longtime friend and fellow Fame inductee support act, Todd Rundgren, featuring a sold-out gig at the Eventim Apollo in London on July 9 after performing with headliner Billy Joel at the historic American Express BST Hyde Park two days earlier.
BeforeAfter, a three-disc compilation of his solo work, from 1980’s Robert Fripp-produced Sacred Songs through 2011’s Laughing Down Crying, co-produced with his longtime musical director, the late T-Bone Wolk, will be released for the first time on vinyl as a three-album set by Friday Music on May 19.
Compiled and sequenced by Hall, BeforeAfter features 30 tracks spanning all five of his solo albums, featuring six never-released performances from the pathbreaking web and television series Live From Daryl’s House, including a recording of the Eurythmics classic “Here Comes The Rain Again,” performed with longtime Hall compatriot, Dave Stewart, a harmony-laden version of Ruby and The Romantics’ “Our Day Will Come” and “Can We Still be Friends” with tourmate Todd Rundgren.
“I picked this collection of songs from my solo albums because I feel they encapsulate certain periods of my career.” says Hall. “It also shows the diversity of working with collaborators like Robert Fripp or Dave Stewart. And, having some tracks from LFDH on it, really makes the compilation complete.”
Hall’s solo tour gets underway May 24 at the Wellmont Theater in Montclair, NJ, and includes those two sold out shows in the U.K., one joining Billy Joel at Hyde Park, the other with Todd Rundgren at Apollo Eventim.
“So glad to be back playing in London,” said Daryl Hall. “I always have the best shows there.”
Wrote Jeremy Holiday in his BeforeAfter liner notes. “More than a chance to work ‘alone,’ Hall’s individual pursuits have granted him license to be more eclectic in his choice of collaborators and to push further outside the expected bounds.”
