Omaha fans got exactly what they expected Thursday night at The Lookout Lounge when Nashville Pussy hit the stage, a loud, boisterous, good ole rock n roll show.  It was a welcome return since the band last hit town on one of their headlining legs in late 2015.  Opening with Everybody’s Fault But Mine, the first release from their latest album Up The Dosage, the band brought it, with their hard-hitting, sleazy southern-style rock that the crowd just ate up.  Founding members Ruyter Suys and Blaine Cartwright, started the band back in 1996.  The husband/wife duo have been writing music together and touring ever since, with a few rhythm section lineup changes along the way for this band.  Bonnie Buitrago joined the band on bass in late 2011 and drummer Ben Thomas, the newest member, joined in November 2016.

In this headlining club date, the band was up close and personal with the audience.  An enormous American flag hung as the backdrop, which Blaine explained as a symbol of bringing back Rock n Roll to America and the crowd cheering on.  A stand out moment of the show was Blaine’s tribute to one of his heroes, the late Chuck Berry, with a short solo “Chuck-style”.  Of course the night was made even more lively with Blaine pouring a full beer into his hat and then drinking it before plopping the soggy thing back on his head to continue the song.  Ruyter’s big as life on-stage persona was received with open arms and her playing was outstanding, as always.

The set list was a good mix of songs spanning across all albums, with an emphasis on the newer tunes from Up the Dosage.  From the 2014 release we heard Pillbilly Blues, Rub It To Death and Till The Meat Falls Off The Bone plus the title track Up The Dosage.   The infectious tunes, Pussy’s Not A Dirty Word and Go Motherfucker Go closed out the night with a mass sing along ensuing.  Other than a small break in February, the band has been on the road since November of 2016. With as much touring as the band has done lately, it’s no wonder they serve up a quality show.  They played as well as they ever have.  As their string of North American dates have now come to an end, the band is off to Australia and New Zealand with the first show May 4th in Auckland.  All in all, a great night in a room filled with screaming, raunchy guitar playing, great songs, a true Rock n Roll spirit and a crowd totally into the show.
